Reasearch work

When I was thinking about our club idea, I imeddiately imagined that video I had seen before. It's a video of a russian singer. I like how the director use handheld camera, and the begining of the video, it'a kind of way I see our final shoot. That paranoia thing, the main character is going crazy. And also the beginning is in the dirty corridor somewhere in the cellar.

The structures of the title sequences.

We start thinking on the appearance of the opening title sequence we are going to shoot, particularly titles. How are they going to be presented?
Here are some examples of the different styles of opening sequences. We haven't really thought a lot about that, but these structures I'd like to see most.

Film begins straight from the off and titles are superimposed on top of action.

So, you see the titles appears just on top of the action. This may work good with our idea, because we want people to be involved and concentrated on the events that are taking part in our extract. So this won't let people to relax, they won't distract on the titles much, but will be catching all the info together.

Discreet title sequences -  where the titles are completely separated from the rest of the film and are filmed and edited in a different style, often a montage.

I don't think that kind of titles will work with all our paranoia thing. Our main goal is to show skills in editing, shooting and plotting. We've created a good interesting plot and want our film to be the main thing , but not the montage titles.
Stylised editing - film starts but during the title sequence an elaborate style of editing is used to introduce the text in amongst the action. Deliberately draws attention to style of editing.

I like this one the most, because it is very unusual. The titles are presented in an elaborated way, that attracts the audience a lot. But this technique needs a work of real professionals and I suppose a lot of time, while we have to make our work excellent, it is better to reduce the level of difficulty, but do it as better as possible. So, I wouldn't pick this technique out of others.
Animated
This is an absolutely animated style, which goes not on top of the action. And must be created on the computer. I wouldn't choose that one, because we HAVE to shoot, but no stay near the computer the whole time. And also we need to have some skills in doing such kind of things, that none of us has.

Old school - titles over a black screen then the film starts. This structure can emphasise the soundtrack.

That is a very traditional way of showing the titles, which I don't prefer, because if you have time to show something why not to show???) Basically, we have a plot and a actions we are shooting, that I don't think will go along good with a black screen with tittles. It will destroy the tension  we want to create by showing our piece. However it may work out even better, but not before the start of our film, but at the same time.
Basically , I can imagine our opening title sequence made with help of this structure, if we use the black screen with the titles periodically, after some shots.

Discussion and development of idea.

Firstly, we decided to pick my 3rd idea as our main one. We improved it a lot, and worked on it several days. We wanted the woman to be working in escort, and the story was about her falling in love with a client, who abused her. But she loved him so much, that couldn't do anything.
But then we thought it is pretty clear, and not so interesting for the audience, whilst our aim is to involve the audience.  So, we decided to make something weird, and connected with paranoia thing.
We picked Henry's idea about a man being followed in a tube. And it had success, so we decided to work on this one, but the problem was with location. It will be expensive and will take a lot of time to film in a tube, therefore we started to think about night club. We were going to work on the studio and make it look as a club but, suddenly, we faced a lot of problems with props, place and what exactly we are suppose to shoot. We won't have enough adults, lights and atmosphere won't be exactly what we want it to be. So, we changed it absolutely, but left the main "paranoia" theme.
In conclusion, our video is going to be shoot in the cellar corridor of Hurtwood house and boys loo. It must be look like a loo of a not luxury club. All the cast are men, and will be consisted of 5-8 people.

1st group meeting + 4 ideas.

It's time to start working on our Course work. We were randomly divided into groups of 3 and 4 by Adam. I'm going to do my job with Plum and Henry. I've already had an experience of working with Henry on Prelim task; and Plum is doing great at media lessons. So, I'm happy to be with them. Hope our prepares, shooting and editing will work. We have a lot of ideas, which you will see embodied in our final work.

My 4 ideas were:
1) The idea was about the woman staying alone in the house on the rainy night. She is waking up and going downstairs to the kitchen. CU of the cup, and kettle, her long shots. We hear the sounds of something falling on the floor upstairs. ECU of her face, she is confused, she is going towards the stairs back to the hall. Start going up, but then the sound of knocking in the door stops her. She is returning to open it, CU of her hand opening the door, there is nobody there. Just a light of a lantern and rain falling down. She is closing the door , exaggerated sound of slam. BLACK SCREEN

2) My second idea was about a teenage girl, who is a dancer. As she is waking up and going to the shower, than going  out of the house. Cross cut to her in the dancing class alone, it's early morning. CU of different part of her body, as she is dancing. Music becomes more quick and loud, and then she suddenly fallling on the floor. Music stops. Cross cut to her either waking up in bed again, so everything we've seen was just her dream, but she is an a dancing uniform; or her o/s shot sitting in the weelchair and looking to the window or wathcing tv where people are dancing.

3) The third idea was about a woman going out of the dark towards the camera in the beautiful long red evening dress. She is gorgeous. CU of different parts of her body with the tittles on them. Then she turning backwards, and we see ECU of man's hands rezipping her dress. And there are bruises and scars on her spine. Titles are going in the shape of these scars.

4) It starts with a man washing his hands, all the piece is in rewinding backwards. He is going down the stairs. Knife from the floor is going up to his hand. Then we see a body on the floor, he is putting his knife inside it. ECU of victims eyes opening.
